Lexus LS600h L

SoCal Gets Ford Plug-in Hybrid

Posted by Mr.Green under: Ford Hybrid Cars.

Ford Escape Hybrid

SoCal Electric Company, just receive one of the 20 Ford Escape Plug-in hybrid. It looks like Ford is stepping ahead of the game to bring hybrid cars on the road.

The Plug-In Escape achieves 120 mpg when the lithium-ion batteries are full charged (for the first 30 miles at least). The ease of just plugging your hybrid into a wall socket is the most convenient method of using a hybrid.

The lithium-ion technology has proven that it’s a match made in heaven with the new hybrids on the market today. These batteries have a longer life span then any conventional battery and weight a lot less, making it the ideal battery for a light-weight hybrid car.

GAG A-HEV Hybrid

Posted by Mr.Green under: International Hybrid Cars.

international hybrid car

International car makers are stepping up to the plate and making international hybrid cars.

Take the Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAG) for an example, this month they revealed this A-HEV hybrid vehicle concept at the Guangzhou International Auto Show, which could be an indicator of the design direction GAG intends to take.

Currently, GAG reproduces Honda and Toyota models for domestic-only consumption. Like other Chinese carmakers, the company is being encouraged by the central government to develop original, Chinese-branded automobiles. And when the central government asks you to jump…you better do it!

The A-HEV is also an indicator that the company plans to invest in efficient and affordable automobiles. GAG recently announced a new factory that will be able to put out a mid-to-high class sedan around 2010, with approximate production of 100,000 cars a year. That sure is a lot of eco-friendly cars driving around in Bejing!

In this day in age international hybrid cars are the thing of the past!

Plug-in Hybrid Cars?

Posted by Mr.Green under: Hybrid Cars News.

Wow!electrial outlet

This just in! US Energy lab are testing 13 Toyota Hybrid cars retrofitted with mileage-boosting batteries that can be plugged into a regular household electrical outlet.

So far, the cars’ mileage per gallon has about doubled after being outfitted with lithium plug-in batteries, to 125 miles per gallon in city driving conditions. They also have seen 200+ miles per gallon under laboratory conditions.

Hybrids generally use power from their gas-fueled engines or generated by braking to charge their batteries to propel them in rush-hour and city traffic; in higher-speed situations like highway driving, the engine kicks in, making a very fuel efficient vehicle.

The Prius comes from the factory with a 1.3 kilowatt-hour battery pack. INL is testing vehicles that have been given 5 kwh to 10 kwh packs. Scientists hope to reduce the cost of a plug-in hybrid battery to just $3,000 per car. By the looks of it, it’s very possible to achieve that cost.

Ten teams driving hybrid electric cars will join the Innovation Class of next summer’s Great Race from New York to Paris and attempt to complete the almost 22,000 mile (35,000 km) course by driving as efficiently as possible. ‘Hypermilers’, as they are known, push the limits of fuel efficiency and achieve unheard of miles-per-gallon readings of as high has 100 mpg.

One of the drivers of Team Hypermilers had already claimed he drove 1,200 miles on tank of gas with is Toyota Prius! This will be a race to remember.

The 100MPG Biodiesel-Powered Motorcycle

Posted by Mr.Green under: Biodiesel.

biobike

This is a biodiesel-powered motorcycle created by students in Adelaide, Australia. The “BioBike” gets around 100 mpg while burning biodiesel. It was built for the 2007 Panasonic World Solar Challenge, which got underway yesterday in Australia. In this event, 40 teams from across the globe compete in the 3000 kilometer race from Darwin to Adelaide in Australia. Motorcycles with diesel engines are rarely seen because diesel engines generally require heavier engine-casings. The BioBike, however, has an innovative diesel engine that has been optimized for a bike….

Honda CR-Z

Honda has been stepping up to the plate with these awesome hybrid concept cars. The newest car to Honda hybrid family is the Honda CR-Z, short for Compact Renaissance Zero. The Honda CR-Z is powered by a petrol-electric hybrid IMA motor. It’s light-weight two seater sports car, the front of the Honda CR-Z has big open mouth intake with a redesign rear to limit drag. Equipped with LED headlights, glass roof, and 19-inch wheels to give a more luxury look, I have to say this would be a fun car to drive around!

Toyota Hybrid X Concept

Designed as a four-door, four-seated open-spaced hybrid car, I’d have to say Toyota development team has done and amzing job on this hybrid concept car! After looking through the pictures it unbelievable how much leg room you have in this car. The seats can turn up to 12 degrees left or right, allowing the passengers to enjoy the world as they drive silently through, not to mention the glass roof give an outstanding view.

Could this be the next generation to the Toyota Prius?

200 MPG Velozzi Micro-Turbine Electric Hybrid

Posted by Mr.Green under: Best Hybrid Cars.

hybrid super concept car

Velozzi claims that their first working model indicates a 0-60 time of 3 seconds and 200 mph top speed and also anywhere from 100 - 200 MPG in normal driving conditions! All I can say is WOW! Can you imagine 200 MPG!

The key to this super efficient hybrid supercar is the micro-turbine. The super efficient engine is designed to run on any “heavy” fuel - such as diesel, gasoline, biodiesel, or ethanol. The micro-turbine acts as an onboard generator to charge the batteries. To keep the vehicle as light as possible, the makers uses space age polymers and composites, along with super-light lithium ion batteries.

I can’t wait to see this baby on the road!
